As May come to a close, I wanted to take a moment to recognize Small Business Month — 31 days dedicated to celebrating the courage, creativity, and contribution of America’s entrepreneurs. And this year, the celebration feels especially powerful. As the founder of OrganicREADY LLC, I know what it’s like to build something from the ground up — fueled by purpose, guided by passion, and grounded in serving a community. Your Government Partner: SBA Resources You Should Be Using Right Now

The U.S. Small Business Administration is the only go-to federal resource and voice for small businesses, empowering entrepreneurs and small business owners with the resources and support they need to start, grow, expand their businesses, or recover from a declared disaster. It delivers services through an extensive network of SBA field offices and partnerships with public and private organizations.

For more than 60 years, the SBA has celebrated National Small Business Week (NSBW), which acknowledges the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. NSBW 2026 took place May 3–9, officially recognizing the hard work, ingenuity, dedication, and contributions of small businesses to the economy.

This October, the Small Business Expo brings together entrepreneurs, startups, and business professionals for networking, education, and growth opportunities. This event offers opportunity’s for building partnerships, promote services and connect directly with potentially clients.

Why NOW Is the Most Critical Time to Be an Entrepreneur

There has never been a more pivotal moment to own your destiny as a business owner. Yes, the economic landscape has its complexities — but complexity breeds opportunity for those who are prepared.

Analysts expect U.S. growth to slow to about 1.6 percent in 2026, with inflation easing toward 3 percent. Yet small businesses — those with 249 or fewer employees — drove 52.8 percent of U.S. job creation from early 2021 through mid-2024, reflecting their continued economic importance. The engine keeps running.

Small Business Contributions to the U.S. Economy

The numbers don’t lie. Small businesses are not the little guys — they are the engine of America’s economic power.

The SBA defines a small business as an independent business with fewer than 500 employees. There were 5.58 million U.S. firms that had at least one employee but fewer than 500 employees in 2023, up from 5.53 million in 2022.
